Ken was just 55 when he suffered a stroke 14 years ago. He subsequently took a year off work to rehabilitate and after finding things difficult on his return, 10 years ago he decided to take early retirement.
While Ken wouldn’t have ever considered himself a keen cyclist, he did enjoy local leisure rides on his bike.
He said: “I knew I needed to maintain some exercise in my retirement, but after the stroke I found I wasn’t confident on my bike, as if I had to stop quickly, I couldn’t put my foot down fast enough on the right-hand side so often just fell over.”
Ken decided he needed to seek an alternative solution and bought himself a trike.
While that alone was a game changer, it was when Ken decided to upgrade his trike with Get Cycling CIC several years ago and at the same time invest in an accompanying trike rack, that a whole world of opportunity opened to him.
After seeking advice from Get Cycling CIC, Ken bought one of Pendle Bike Rack’s WT+ trike racks, enabling him to transport his trike and his wife’s bike on the rear of their car.
Ken said: “We had a tow bar fitted at the time of our purchase and the rack fits on and off easily.
“While trips are generally localised within a 30-mile radius of our Harrogate home, the rack really has opened up lots of new spaces for us to explore now we are not limited to routes just from our front door.
“I have nothing but praise for Pendle Bike Racks and Get Cycling.”
